The Visitor

Back before the beginning of the year I was sound asleep, in the middle of the night when I thought I heard my sister saying my name. It didn't specifically sound like her aside from the way it pronounced the A which is more like an E. I woke up, thinking maybe she needed something.

It wasn't my sister's face leaning over my bed, I don't know what kind of face it was. It was gaunt and almost skeletal thin with a pasty grey complexion and black sunken eyes. It was terrifying, especially considering I couldn't move, I was suffering my first bout of sleep paralysis.

A quick picture I drew of the Visitor after its first visit

Whenever the paralysis passed I sat up and immediately flipped on my bedside lamp. Nobody seemed to be in my room but as I looked around I heard a deep, almost dual toned laugh coming from the doorway to my bedroom. It was the most terrifying thing I had ever experienced and I never wanted to go through it again.

A few months later, in the middle of the night again I was woke up by somebody saying my name. This time the voice sounded exactly like my room mate at the time's voice and seeing as she has a now ten month old son, I thought something was wrong. I opened my eyes and thought I saw my friend's face leaning over my bed. I asked her what was wrong but she didn't answer. I asked again and still no response. I started to get frustrated but suddenly it dawned on me, that face far too pale and thin to be my friend's.

I flipped on the light again and discovered that my room was empty. I got out of bed and went to check on my friend only to find both she and her son were still sound asleep.

This incident didn't come with sleep paralysis, nor did I hear any laughter.

The next time I experienced my late night visitor I hadn't fallen asleep yet. I was laying in my bed, tossing and turning and just generally being unable to sleep. I rolled over onto my back and thought I saw a face leaning in to stare in my face. I reached up my hand, trying to touch my visitors face before it fully came into view and it backed away as my hand came closer. I didn't fully understand what had happened that time, I fell asleep shortly after but the next day I processed it and it was just freaky as all the others.

After that last experience where I hadn't been asleep yet, I decided I was done with it. I reclaimed my salt lamp from my friend and plugged it in beside my bed. Himalayan salt lamps supposedly purify the air, keeping it clean and easy to breathe. It's also salt, which if you know anything about demons and salt, they don't mix.

Since installing the lamp I have had no further visits from my night time visitor from hell. I'm incredibly grateful for that.
